What’s In Your Drinking Water?
Posted on | September 12, 2008 |
Do you know what’s in your drinking water? We receive reports from our township periodically and everything is within normal range. What worries me now is what might be in water that we aren’t testing for? How much of these things are in the water? How much does it take to affect our health? While the reports say that the concentrations are low - parts per million or even trillion - they also admit that these low concentrations are enough to do some damage:
While the comprehensive risks are still unclear, researchers are finding evidence that even extremely diluted concentrations of pharmaceutical residues harm fish, frogs and other aquatic species in the wild and impair the workings of human cells in the laboratory.
So what is in the water? It’s drug residues such as cholesterol medication, nicotine derivatives, tranquilizers and hormones. Where has it been detected? So far, most municipalities haven’t tested their water. Of those that have, issues have arisen in cities within Nevada, Georgia, Colorado, Alabama and Illinois. New York City refuses to test its water! I would like to see more testing done, but I think it also needs to come along with a plan to improve the situation.
